Bloggers Who Don’t Respond To Comments?

I never thought there would be such a thing as a book blogger who didn’t answer comments left on their own blog. Now I don’t mean that you should have to respond to every comment, if some of the comments are just things like “good job!” or “I liked that book.” or whatever. But ever since I joined the Discussion Challenge Nicole at Feed Your Fiction Addiction started up, I’ve been finding more book bloggers through the discussion posts. And from checking out their follow lists. Some blogs I may never have found if not for that challenge. And a… Read more »

Fantasy Creature Friday – Nightflyer!

What is Fantasy Creature Friday? It’s a discussion where I will talk about a particular creature every week. And what book or book series I think of when that creature is mentioned. At the end of the post, you will also get to link up your own fantasy creature book reviews and discussions for others to wander through. Thanks to Anya at On Star Ships And Dragon Wings for letting me borrow her ‘link your blog’ idea. She does a giveaway every Friday where you can win ARC’s and link up your reviews/discussions/giveaways. You should totally check it out after… Read more »

Changes (Valdemar: Collegium Chronicles #3) by Mercedes Lackey (review)

Changes (Valdemar: Collegium Chronicles #3) by Mercedes Lackey (review)

“It’s on account’a I’m a bonehead, an’ don’t allus ‘member what th’ right word is, so I come’s close as I kin… People figger it out!”   Mags reminds me a lot of Skif from Take A Thief. Which might be one reason I like him. I like Skif better, but there’s something about Mags that’s slightly charming. His method of speech may turn people off, he’s an abused orphan from a slave mine. And so never learned ‘correct’ speech. He tends to forget or not know the correct word to use sometimes, and thus makes up words. He either… Read more »

How Do You Choose Your Next Book?

I was realizing today that I seem to read in blocks. Like, a few months ago, all I was reading were ebooks on my Kindle. And for the last month, all I’ve read were physical books. I just haven’t wanted to go through the effort of picking a book on my Kindle. It would be nice if the summaries were right there where you could easily find them. But since I have to go to Amazon in order to read the book summary, some days it’s just more trouble than it’s worth. I was reading someone’s blog, I forget who… Read more »

13 Treasures (Thirteen Treasures #1) by Michelle Harrison (review)

13 Treasures (Thirteen Treasures #1) by Michelle Harrison (review)

Adventure, mystery, magic and intrigue. There’s a new twist in almost every chapter it seems. And quite a few of them were surprises to me. The history of how the fae Court became Seelie and Unseelie made sense, though I did think it would have been the other way around. There was also a lot of lore about protecting yourself from the fae, like wearing red, turning your clothes inside out, and carrying iron in your pocket. All the little things scattered throughout the book about various types of fae were well-researched and written. It did seem a bit silly… Read more »

The Selection (The Selection #1) by Kiera Cass (review)

The Selection (The Selection #1) by Kiera Cass (review)

So there are a number of weird names in this book. I knew from reading the synopsis that the name of the main character would bug me. But the premise sounded like it might be a fun read, so I picked it up anyway. Some names are okay, or just twists on more normal names. But seriously… America Singer? Tiny? Tuesday? Aspen is borderline, I’ve read it before as a girls name but not a boy. The palace is constantly under attack by two different rebel factions. And not one person seems to have any idea why they’re being attacked!… Read more »

Top Characters You Wish Had Never Died

Yes, I realize this is going to have spoilers for some people. But I was thinking about it the other night. There are some book characters that you fall hard for, and then end up hating the book or the author once you find out that character has died. I’m sure we’ll have at least some of the same people on our lists, but this is my top 7 (Book names/series names bolded and character hidden by the Spoiler tag so you can skip if you haven’t read the book yet) in no particular order:   Harry Potter:   Kim… Read more »

Written In Red (The Others #1) by Anne Bishop

Written In Red (The Others #1) by Anne Bishop

“Whatever rules humans have for employers aren’t my rules unless I say they’re my rules. So I can hire you even though you don’t have any idea what you’re doing, and I can fire you for having stinky hair!” This is one of my favorite authors, so when I saw she had a new series out I had to snatch it up. And I wasn’t disappointed! From the first page, I was hooked. I like the way she described the werecreatures and elementals. It’s a different take on something that is in a lot of fantasy books these days. The… Read more »
