Movie, TV Show and Book References In Books

Lately it seems like the universe is trying to tell me something. Or perhaps the Powers That Be, just want me to watch more movies or something. *laughs* But out of the last 6 books I’ve read, all of them have had movie or tv show references. The book I’m currently reading keeps mentioning The Love Boat, and various Elvis movies. The three I finished before this, all had Xena references (seriously! Three books in a row, three different genres!), and the two before that both had some kind of Harry Potter reference. I love Xena and Harry Potter, I… Read more »

Dead Ice (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #24) by Laurell K. Hamilton (review)

Dead Ice (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #24) by Laurell K. Hamilton (review)

I’ve been hoping for years now that Anita would go back to the crime scene work like in the early books. I really enjoyed reading about how she figured out who the killer or bad person was. All the information about police work and using her zombie raising power and other abilities. This book? Started out with her doing that, in the form of her U.S. Marshall duties. There is a squick factor in that the crime she is investigating has to do with zombie porn. (Yes, you read that right.) But no explicit details are given. And there is… Read more »

Flawed (Flawed #1) by Cecelia Ahern (review)

Flawed (Flawed #1) by Cecelia Ahern (review)

I didn’t realize this was a first in a series when I requested it. So when I got to the end of the book and saw it only wrapped up some of the story, and one of the major plot lines was still going, I wanted to go out and grab the next book immediately! Which is good, because it means I really liked this book. And also bad, because book 2 doesn’t come out until 2017! The world building was amazing. Though not in the ‘completely different world’ way. This world is basically our world, but with a few… Read more »

Moss Hysteria (A Flower Shop Mystery #18) by Kate Collins (review)

Moss Hysteria (A Flower Shop Mystery #18) by Kate Collins (review)

The cover is kind of cartoony, but don’t let that chase you off. I was sucked into this story from the first pages. And I haven’t read anything by this author before. I liked a lot of the characters, especially Abby and Marco. But I also liked reading about Jillian, and Francesca. I didn’t really like Mitzi or Rosa. Mitzi just irked me, she was totally one of those women who don’t mind lying to put themselves in the best light possible. She also had no issues with seducing married men. And Rosa was colored from Abby’s point of view,… Read more »

Firefly Themed Loot Crate!

I’ve gotten a few Loot Crates in the past, and they were all pretty cool. But mostly the themes don’t sound like something I’m going to like everything that comes in the box. And then a few months ago, I got an e-mail announcing they were coming out with a new type of crate, themed around the TV show Firefly. And I had to get one! Instead of an every month box, it’s an every other month box. So every 2 months, you get a new Firefly themed crate. For March, it centered around Kaylee.     My Firefly loot… Read more »

Eviltron – April Fool’s Prank!

So, I adore April Fool’s day. I don’t always come up with something to do, or have the opportunity for pranking. But when I do? *rubs hands together evilly* *adopts patented wide-eyed innocent look* One year I had my co-workers convinced I was pregnant. Which at the time they all knew very well wasn’t possible. Another year on a virtual pet site I play on, I sent out fake “Congratulations on your baby pony!” messages to all my friends. Copying exactly what the game system would have sent out as an automated message… Even the people who didn’t breed on… Read more »
