Sinful Cinderella (Dark Fairy Tale Queen Series) by Anita Valle (review)

Sinful Cinderella (Dark Fairy Tale Queen Series) by Anita Valle (review)

This was actually not quite what I was expecting. And that isn’t a bad thing at all! It’s a mix of Cinderella and Snow White, with a twisted Cinderella, and a funny and crazy Godmother. Nothing is quite what you remember from the fairy tale, or quite like any other retelling of Cinderella that I’ve read so far. I loved how nothing was quite what it seemed, and there were a lot of twists for such a short book. The story and characters are a bit dark and twisted, which just sucked me in further. I wanted to know what… Read more »

The Ghosts of Misty Hollow (A Ghost of Granny Apples Mystery #6) by Sue Ann Jaffarian (review)

The Ghosts of Misty Hollow (A Ghost of Granny Apples Mystery #6) by Sue Ann Jaffarian (review)

There are a few different plot threads in the book. Some tie into the main mystery, and some tie together into a main side mystery. Both are woven together well. I liked how Emma interacted with the ghosts, and how her talent was portrayed. The characters were well-written, with enough fleshing out to feel real. Some I clicked with right away, and others I didn’t like so much. I guessed who the killer was early on, but had no idea of the why. I also liked how Emma had to look up historical records and put old clues together to… Read more »

Heartless by Marissa Meyer (review)

Heartless by Marissa Meyer (review)

I liked a number of things about the book. Like how many Wonderland characters I recognized, and felt true to themselves. (Like Cheshire!) I also liked reading about the various confections Cath made, and how when she dreamed about Jest, things would appear in her room, grown by the dreams. Jest was by far my favorite character. He was charming and sweet, mysterious and had so many magic tricks up his sleeve. (Can’t say much more due to spoilers…) The friendship between Cath and Mary Ann was really good too. They dreamed together about opening up their own bakery. And… Read more »

Telling Tails (Second Chance Cat Mystery #4) by Sofie Ryan (review)

Telling Tails (Second Chance Cat Mystery #4) by Sofie Ryan (review)

I had no idea who the killer was until the end. I had a few guesses, but they were all wrong. It did end up fitting, once we found out the why though. I really like Rose. It was amusing how much trouble she got into, and how stubborn she was. She dragged Sarah along for the ride, whether or not she wanted to go! There is a lot of humor and twists in the book. Some of which you expect, a number of which you won’t. The main characters are well fleshed-out, and each have their own personal quirks…. Read more »

Den of Wolves (Blackthorn & Grim #3) by Juliet Marillier (review)

Den of Wolves (Blackthorn & Grim #3) by Juliet Marillier (review)

The big twist I saw coming very early on. That didn’t detract at all from the story though. Especially as I wasn’t sure of the why or the how. We also finally get confirmation about why Conmael has been helping Blackthorn. I loved the song/rhyme that’s given in bits and pieces and then finally in full in the book. I usually skip over that sort of thing, but it really resonated and stuck in my head. I also liked the story of the Heartwood House, and how we got to see different versions of it, both good and bad. I… Read more »
