Do You Binge Read?

February 7, 2015 Discussions 8

Before I started blogging and reviewing books, I would sometimes get the urge to binge read. Usually it was the urge to read an entire series (or all the books currently out at that time in said series). But sometimes it was just an “I want to read author X.” And I’d read 4-6 or more books in a row, all by one author.

I don’t do that anymore. Mostly because I feel it would get pretty boring for people reading my blog. “Oh look, there’s a review for book 4 in series X. Book 3 was reviewed a few days ago, I bet we’re going to see book 5 in that series next.”

Or, “Oh look. It’s another review for a book by author X. The last 5 books she’s reviewed have all been from that author.”

The most I binge read now is 2 books at a time from the same author. And only then if I have enough reviews scheduled that I can separate the reviews by at least 2 weeks. I still get the urge to read a whole series some days, but I just don’t have the time to actually let myself do it anymore.

Now that I have a full time job again, some weeks I’m writing posts the night before they’re due to go live. But, shhhh! don’t tell anyone!

So what about you? Do you binge read? If you binge read and blog, how do you handle reviewing the books? Or DO you review all the books? If you don’t blog, how many books was the most you read (in a series or just by the same author) one right after another?

I saw that! After I’d already written this post up. *grins* Apparently we read each others minds this week. I’m technically binge reading at the moment. I got an ARC of Vision in Silver, but hadn’t read Murder of Crows yet, so I just finished Murder of Crows, read one book by a different author, and now I’m on Vision in Silver…

But normally I try not to do that anymore for the reasons stated in the discussion. *grins*

I binge read usually when I haven’t read in a long time. Like this past weekend I wanted to read but was sick and so I just stuck to watching Netflix all day. I’m sure this upcoming weekend I will be reading 2-3 books but they will all be from different authors. Usually the book series aren’t finished (which I hate cuz then I have to wait)so I just move on to the next book on my list. 🙂

I don’t think any of the series I own are finished. Well, maybe one of them. But mostly I seem to end up reading series that have a ton of books in them already, and no idea how long the series will end up being. Those are the most tempting to binge read for me, especially when I new one in the series comes out!

Sorry to hear you were sick, hope you feel better now.

You just stated the exact reason why I don’t binge read anymore because of the blog! Lol I did binge read the Parasol Protectorate books but I am spacing out those reviews on the blog so like you said people don’t get bored with them. Personally I hate reading a review of a book further into a series I haven’t read yet cause everything could be a spoiler!

Me too! If I see someone I follow has reviewed a book in a series I haven’t gotten to yet, I skip the review until after I’ve read the book. Just in case. Sometimes if I have to know something, I’ll read the review before the book. But that doesn’t happen often.

I don’t have the time to binge read. On average, I read one book a week. If I happen to plow through a series, I tend to do a series review rather than review each book individually. I actually prefer this because each book in a series can be so different, but when all the books are out you can see the whole picture.

I’ve thought about reviewing a series instead of just one book at a time, but most of the series I’m reading aren’t finished. And there are certain things I love (or hate) in one book that might not be there in the next. So I get worried I’d end up writing a novel instead of a review if I do it for an entire series. *laughs* But I tend to babble at the best of times.
