What is Fantasy Creature Friday? It’s a discussion where I will talk about a particular creature every week. And what book or book series I think of when that creature is mentioned. At the end of the post, you will also get to link up your own fantasy creature book reviews and discussions for others to wander through.
This weeks creature is the:
Giants look like humans, but are much larger and stronger than humans. They are said to be anywhere from as tall as a tree, to the height of a mountain. Some accounts claim that giants are extremely stupid as well as ugly and violent. While others say that giants are very smart and can be friendly with humans.
Giants are omnivores, but prefer meat. Some of the stupid and violent ones view humans as nothing more than cattle, and will gladly eat them. The smart friendly ones do not eat humans, but it is sometimes hard to tell which type of giant they are since they are so very large.
Some giants live in villages, farming and caring for (tiny to them and normal to humans) animals. They make clothes the way humans do, and have similar culture and artisans. Others wander from place to place, stealing whatever they want and smashing houses and trees.
I have read about Giants in a number of books, including: Harry Potter, Valiant by Sarah McGuire, the Merry Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton, The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis, and The Neverending Story by Michael Ende.
Had you heard of Giants before? What is your favorite book with a Giant in it?
