Fantasy Creature Friday – Incubus!

January 9, 2015 Discussions 6

What is Fantasy Creature Friday? It’s a discussion where I will talk about a particular creature every week. And what book or book series I think of when that creature is mentioned. At the end of the post, you will also get to link up your own fantasy creature book reviews and discussions for others to wander through.

Thanks to Anya at On Star Ships And Dragon Wings for letting me borrow her ‘link your blog’ idea. She does a giveaway every Friday where you can win ARC’s and link up your reviews/discussions/giveaways. You should totally check it out after you’re done here!

This week’s creature is the:

Incubus!

In Ephemera, there are no cities and towns as we know them. Instead there are Landscapes. Some of these Landscapes were real places once, but dreamers changed them, warped them out of reality. One of these Landscapes is where the Incubus Sebastian lives. Incubi and Succubi are demons that feed off of sexual energy and emotions.

Most humans don’t want them anywhere near them, so they live in Dark Landscapes with other demons and unwanteds. Landscapes where daylight never falls.

Incubi can connect to others using something like telepathy, but only when those others are dreaming. They reach out while humans sleep, and come to them as dream lovers. Giving them everything they can imagine and more, as the Incubi feed off their emotions. And then the dream fades away leaving only the barest of memories for those the Incubi touched.

What are your favorite books with Incubi in them? Have you read any books in the Ephemera series?

Ooh, I’m really intrigued by this series now! I think I might have to check it out. The only book I’ve ever read about an Incubus is Golden Stair by Jennifer Blackstream, which is part of an adult fairy tale retelling series (which is amazing, but only if you don’t mind the adult content – not sure where you stand on that).

I do really like this series. So far there are only 3 books in it if that helps your decision at all? I just picked up book 3 and will most likely be reading it this week. Each book centers around a different character. So book 1, is Sebastian and you get to know all about Incubi and Succubi and all. Book 2 centers around his human cousin Belladonna, but there are lots of cameos from characters you meet in book 1. Book 3 is about Belladonna’s brother.

I don’t mind adult content as long as there is actual plot in the book. *grins* So I’ll have to look up Golden Stair and see. Thanks for the recommendation!

Lucky! I will have to read your review and see what you thought. *grins*

I’ve been getting a lot of recommendations for Owl and the Japanese Circus lately, will have to put it on my ‘to buy’ list. Thanks!
