How Do You Celebrate Your Blogiversary?

April 23, 2016 Discussions 17

My blog will be 2 years old in September. I can’t believe how fast the time has flown! I’ve seen lots of blogiversary posts in the last 1.5 years. Some blogs throw a huge bash with tons of giveaway items and lots of posts on various social media for a week or more leading up to the date.

Others I’ve seen, don’t giveaway anything. But they recap how well their blog has done over the past year, thank all their visitors, and go on about their regular daily life. I’ve seen a few who don’t celebrate it at all, past a tiny footnote in a wrap-up post saying it was their x-year blogiversary on x-date.

Last year, for my 1-year blogiversary, I did a mixture. I held a small giveaway, commented about how I started the blog and thanked everyone for following along. I haven’t decided what I’ll do this year, but I still have 4 and a half months before it happens and I have to decide!

What do you do? Do you celebrate every year, or just the major ones (like 1, 5, 10??)? Do you throw huge bashes where everyone and their mother stops by? Do you keep track of how many years you’ve been blogging, or do you just avoid mention of the blogiversary at all? What do you expect to see in a blogiversary post?

I’ve only had one blogoversary so far and I just did a bit of a recap of my favourite posts from my first year. My second is coming up in July though, so I’m going to have to come up with something better for this one! ๐Ÿ™‚

I did a giveaway and recap, I can’t remember what all else I did! Will have to go back and read the post for ideas and such. I do remember it was a lot of work. So I don’t know what I’ll do for my 2-year. I’m kinda leaning towards only going all out for more major milestones, like if I make it to 5 years. But we’ll see when it gets closer to!

My first blogoversary was HUGE with TONS of prizes from all of my favorite Indie authors – I contacted pretty much every author who wrote a book I loved that I’d reviewed that year – and they almost all said yes to hosting a giveaway item. It actually ended up being slightly overwhelming because I had SO many prizes to give out. The last two years I did much smaller scale giveaways!

And that right there, would be why you are the Event Queen. *grins* Discussion Challenge, Wrap-Up Linkup, Birthday & Blogiversary Calendar… AND mom and wife, and RL job. Are we sure you aren’t actually a robot or have use of a Time Turner? How do you have enough hours in the day, and energy to keep up with all you do? I would be dead already if I did all that! *teases*

My first blogiversary is actually in July so I don’t have any real experience to go off of, but I think I’m going to contact a few of my crafty friends and some authors I really love and hopefully do a big giveaway rather than several small giveaways. I don’t have too much money to spend on giveaways and such, but I do like to thank all my readers. Maybe the prizes can keep getting bigger each year or maybe I’ll do giveaways every other year…? TBH, I don’t even know how long I’ll be blogging (hopefully for a long time!) so I don’t want to plan too far.

Well early congrats on your 1-year!

Blogiversaries can be lots of fun, especially if you’re giving stuff away. They’re also a lot of work getting organized and set up and all. And being the lazy & easily distracted person I am, that means I like giving away stuff I don’t have to personally ship. *laughs* Also means people get their goodies faster!

I hope your blogiversary is a blast and that lots of people visit and participate!

*laughs* I felt the same way when my first one came around! I actually Googled “blogiversary” and made notes about what other people did. Then I picked the most common of my favorite ones and put it all together for mine.

  4. Amy @ Pages of Starlight

*shifty eyes* I…haven’t yet. I’ve passed two blogiversaries and have wanted to celebrate BOTH of them. I’ve had all these great ideas about events and a giveaway, but when that time finally comes, too many other things are going on a I have neither the interest nor the time. (Doesn’t help that it is January 3rd. What was I thinking!?)

What my plans are though, (if I ever actually do this) is to have one giveaway with a couple of winners. The difference is though, the book/s I’d giveaway would be a favorite of mine. I’d have like a dozen books listed and announce that the winner/s would get to chose one book each from the list. My thought was that it’d be something a little different.

Anyway, congrats on your upcoming two year blogiversary, and lots of luck deciding what to do!

That sounds like a great idea for a giveaway! I’d love entering something like that, because I feel like I’m constantly finding new series or books that everyone has read but that I haven’t heard of yet. Even after almost 2 years in the community!

And hey, it could be worse. You could have started your blog on New Years, or Christmas! *lol*

I haven’t hit the one year mark yet, but it’s coming in June. I would like to do a small giveaway or two, and it’s inevitable that I’ll write some reflection posts.

I really like Amy’s idea above, because if I were to just win “$15 towards a book,” I kind of wouldn’t even know where to start. How do I choose ONE book? But if there’s a list to choose from, it makes the selection easier. I know Nicole has done that in various ways.

    • SilvaraWilde

*nods* I don’t tend to do the “win money!” giveaways for the same reason. Sure, I have a list of books I want to own, but picking one of them at any given time???

I totally didn’t know you have only been around a year! It feels like I’ve heard about your blog way longer than that. Maybe it’s just something about the name that sticks in my head, but I really did think you’d been around a few years!

  6. Karen Blue

I will be celebrating 2 years of book blogging this month. I have been blogging for over 5 years tho. I don’t think I ever really celebrated with giveaways. I would like to do a recap with goals and a giveaway this year, maybe?

Didn’t realize I missed this comment! Sorry about that!

Congrats on your 2 year blogiversary! I’m sure whatever you come up with to do will be awesome.
