July Wrap-Up

July 30, 2015 Wrap-Ups 10

July Wrap-Up:

So I’ve been meaning to do one of these since the first few months I started this blog. And quite obviously, it never actually happened! *laughs* Since my 1-year blogging anniversary is coming up in September, I thought I should actually get around to trying a wrap-up post. Now that I have a better handle on the whole blogging thing and all.

So! July wasn’t actually all that busy in some cases. Towards the end I ended up with too many books, but the rest of the month was pretty much so-so. I finally have an entire month’s worth of reviews scheduled ahead! This has been a goal of mine for a while now, and I’ve finally made it. As of today, I have scheduled through September 5th as far as reviews go. No discussions or Fantasy Creature Fridays, but at least I got the reviews done?

Got in touch with a new artist to design me a new header (with a dragon!) for my blog, as well as a blog button. I had started this a few months ago, but the girl who I was working with stopped answering me when I asked her if there were updates. This new person has experience drawing dragons, and I like the examples of previous work. So here’s hoping it all works out this time, and don’t be confused if by September the header changes! I have no plans to do any other redesigning, I like the current look. I’m just tired of my mermaids and with the name of the blog, dragons would be better, ne?

I worked some more on the throw I’m crocheting myself, will post pictures on my Instagram once it’s more there. Right now it looks like the world’s widest belt. *grins* I have 3 scarves I’ve been commissioned to make, that I actually need to get started on. But this month has also been the month of “I don’t want to do anything!” So hopefully I can get at least one scarf started next month instead.

Got my first publisher auto-approval in Netgalley, also got my first unsolicited review book (from Penguin! not the auto-approval from them though, just the book). And that’s all I can think of to babble about. *grins*

I know! I have bad time sense as it is, things I think were recent usually turn out to have happened weeks or months prior. But this year is really flying by! That’s both a good and a bad thing. *laughs*

Oh that’s neat having a month of reviews scheduled ahead. I am trying to stay around the two weeks ahead for a while and some weeks that’s easy, but if I have a bad reading week I easily fall behind again.

And that’s so exciting you are getting a new header! I can’t wait to see it! Who’s designing it for you?

And congrats on your first auto-approval and first unsolicited review book, that’s great! I hope August is a great month for you!

There are a ton of artists on this one game site I play on, I’ve had an account there just over 10 years now. And it dawned on me a month or so ago that I could just start a thread there explaining what I needed, and see if any of them would be willing to design it for me. I got a few responses, but picked the one with experience with drawing dragons. Got the first idea sketches today and fell in love with one at first sight! *bouncing* I didn’t expect to take one look and go “That’s mine. Right there? That one is MINE.” *lol* But I did! I’ll be putting a link in probably the footer area to their website once I get my stuff done. But if you’re curious, her website is here: http://www.bexgowdy.com/art/

I was always falling behind when I had a week or less scheduled ahead. So I tried to get at least 2 weeks ahead, and suddenly I was a month ahead! Nice knowing that if something happens and I don’t read as much as expected, I still have posts I can use. Thanks! And I hope August is good for you too!

I saw the idea sketch the other day. It’s so cute! It wasn’t what I’d had in mind originally, but I took one look at it in the list of possibilities and had to have it. I can hardly wait to see what it looks like once she’s finished fleshing it out and all!

Are you getting a completely new design, or just new images? Now I want to see your new stuff too! *laughs*

Wow, Congratulations on the auto-approval! I got Dundurm auto approval, but Penguin is HUGE! I am really impressed that you got a whole month of reviews written up, I’ll get there eventually. It looks like you had a great month.

Oh I didn’t get auto-approval with Penguin! Sorry for not making that clear. *laughs* I got auto-approval with another smaller publisher, and then an unsolicited book from Penguin. *needs to proofread her posts better!*

I’m still amazed myself when I see how many reviews I have scheduled ahead. I used to think it was good to have a bit over a week. But then I kept scrambling if I didn’t get enough read to keep that far ahead. Next thing I knew I had a month! *laughs*
