Pinterest and the Holidays

December 26, 2015 Discussions 9

Dad and I exchanged gifts on the 23rd, since he’s been sick and finally felt well enough to. And I had to work on Christmas. He got me 9 different Tinkerbell statues. Apparently he got a really good deal on an auction! *laughs*

I got him 2 nutcrackers. A Darth Vader, and an R2D2. Because if he doesn’t tell me what he wants, he gets a random fun nutcracker. (He collects nutcrackers, so it’s slightly less random than it sounds! I just don’t buy him the traditional ones.)

The Darth Vader one is really cool, and bigger than I had expected. So he was fairly impressed and happy with them. Yay win!

We don’t really celebrate Christmas. Well, not exactly. I don’t celebrate Christmas, but I love to give gifts so it’s great fun for me. Dad and I usually exchange gifts, and I’ll send my best friends something, and then spoil the niece and nephew rotten. I sent them a total of 15 (I think? It might have been 18??) books between the pair of them, and then 2 fun gifts each.

Growing up, we did Christmas and had a tree and decorated and everything. I wasn’t raised with any religion, but we always did Christmas and Easter, Halloween and Valentines. Nana (mom’s mom) used to try to drag me to church when I’d visit her and mom. But I’d fall asleep and embarrass her, so that quickly ended!

Today was super slow at work, so I did a lot of reading, as well as poking around Pinterest. Speaking of…

The other day I came across this post about book bloggers being successful on Pinterest. I’ve been a member of Pinterest for somewhere between 1.5 and 2 years now. (Edit: Got curious and dug through my e-mails. Apparently it’s been FOUR years. Way, way off!) But never really used it a lot for my blog.

I have kind of an eclectic mix of boards. A number of food boards that seem to be popular. A few clothing, Harry Potter, Fae, pretty pictures, craft boards, animals, and whatever catches my attention enough to need a board for it.

I have one board for Books With Pretty Covers. And I’ll pin reviews to it from my favorite blogs as well as my own, if I like the cover. But the group boards that Stephanie and Brittany started sounded like fun. So I made 2 group boards of my own. One for Middle Grade book reviews, and one for Cozy Mystery reviews. Neither of which have lots of pins yet, but they’ll get there eventually I’m sure.

If you’d like to join either group board, just send me an e-mail and tell me which one you’re interested in and I’ll send you an invite. And of course, don’t forget to check out the ones Stephanie and Brittany have going!

Did you start any fun projects during the holidays? Since I had to work on Christmas, these boards were my distraction during a slow day! How did you spend the day?

I’ve been on Pinterest for a while now but have never really got the hang of using it for my blog. I do like browsing on there though for inspiration and interesting posts (plus all those funny ones like if Harry Potter characters had Instagram etc.!).
Glad you seem to have had a good Christmas (even if you were working)! Mine was nice and quiet this year, which was good, seen as I’m not really a massive Christmas person myself (I work in retail, so it tends to be a bit of a nightmare!).

I used to use it for my old website, before I got bored of the website and deleted it. I got decent traffic from it, I just never really thought about using it for books!

Ick! Retail is hell during the holidays. I worked retail for 18 years and am so glad to be in a different industry now! Hospitality can be just as bad at times, but at least I’m only on the phone with customers. I don’t have to see them face-to-face for the screaming anymore and that makes it so much easier to deal with!

Happy Christmas!! Even though you only kinda sorta celebrate it?! 😛 I particularly like the food myself, hehe. My family isn’t big on presents, but we definitely have a delicious Christmas Day lunch…and then just sleep in food comas until the new year.
I haven’t ever used my pinterest for blogging either! It’s basically ALL for writing. I think I’ve been there for like…5 years?!? But I don’t pin as much as I used to. I do miss it. ;P

*laughs* Well yeah. I only celebrate the part of it I’m interested in? The excuse to shower people with presents! (So I don’t think it really counts as celebrating Christmas, since I don’t care about all the religion-stuffs. And I don’t care if I get any presents, as long as I get to give them!)

5 years?! I didn’t realize Pinterest had been around that long! Though now I’m curious to see just when I signed up. *digs through e-mails* Longer ago than I thought! January of 2012!

I don’t pin as often as I used to anymore either. Not enough time in the day since I’ll get sucked in and poke around for hours. But maybe these boards will help me get back into it, without taking too much time away from other important things!

Like you, I’ve been a member of Pinterest for a long time (probably at least four years), but I only very sporadically post things for my blog. It should probably be a 2016 resolution to try and do more with it!

My biggest reason for stopping by today was to wish you a happy birthday!! I hope that you’re having a wonderful day and that you’re enjoying it! I have really enjoyed getting to know you over the past year and I’m excited to blog my way through 2016 with you too!

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! Sadly I was at work for 9 hours yesterday. But we went out for dinner afterwords, and I have today and tomorrow off. Just in time for the mid-70’s weather to finally leave, and the 40’s weather to move in! *laughs* But at least Winter is finally making an appearance??

It’s been a blast getting to know you as well Nicole. I can’t wait to see what posts and such you come up with in 2016!

      Thank you!!

*laughs* I know what you mean. I go on horrible splurges when it comes to shopping for other people. Especially my niece and nephew! But when I buy stuff for me? I’m so much stingier. It’s all “Do I REALLY need this? Maybe I’ll just wishlist it and see if the price goes down…”

And the whole time Dad was bringing me gifts to open, I was sitting there thinking “Oh cool! Tinkerbell! Are we done yet? I want him to open his stuff now!”
